Writing and Speaking

There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.
— Maya Angelou

Words have always being one of my favorite ways to express what I think and feel. Regardless of the type of writing, there are three elements that I always stride for: thought-provoking, depth and humor. Some of the areas where I practice that:

Public Speaking

Sharing ideas and stories is one of my passions. I love to get a concept, find evidence of it in my stories arsenal and transform it into opportunities for connection and inspiration. Please inquiry about speaking opportunities. My specialties are purpose, fulfillment and creativity.

I have also presented at The Moth live event in New York City and participated in other storytelling events

Watch my TEDx “How I discovered my pourpose in the back of a school bus”.

I believe the clues of our life’s purpose are present from childhood. This is the story of how dancing to a Menudo song led me on my path toward fulfillment.

A storytelling event. The theme was “home”

Blogging

The last few of years I have written inspirational articles for my blog. I love observing the world and recreating stories that leave us reflecting on how we can become better humans. Everyday moments, such as playtime with my son or a casual encounter becomes a metaphor for a spiritual lesson. My goal is to deliver these big-theme lessons in the most casual way. Some of the recurrent topics in my blog are vulnerability, resilience, mindfulness, finding our path and improving our relationships. Please feel free to share.

Fiction

I recently finished a novel called Unwritten in The Stars (upmarket fiction).

Thirty-year old Lucia always had a volatile relationship with her mom. Growing up under the shadow of the beautiful and irreverent Carmina took a hit on her self-confidence and pushed her to close herself to love.  After discovering at Carmina’s funeral that her mother was having an affair, she determines to discover who her mother really was. In the process, Lucia uncovers many secrets as she digs into their parallel stories of heartbreak. Can making peace with our loved ones break the barriers we have put up against love? Violin teacher Rodrigo arrives in the middle of Lucia’s emotional chaos to possibly break her walls or as her psychic grandmother say, help her find her destiny. Can Lucia reclaim her self-confidence and open her heart before it is too late?

With touches of humor, the story reflects on the erratic process of grief. Set up in an Italian family in Venezuela, my manuscript reveals the complexity of family dynamics and strong women, while supernatural experiences sprinkle the pages with touches of magical realism.

I can’t wait to share this with you!

Non-Fiction

Years ago, I did a Documentary Photography project called Found by Love. I visited Malta House, a residence for homeless pregnant women in Norwalk, CT, for several months. The stories of survival, hope, resilience, and adventures in motherhood filled my heart. I knew those stories needed to be shared. I wrote this book as an ode to these women’s journeys, their desires to give their children a better life, and the importance of a community supporting us when we need to change our lives.

This book was very close to my heart. I was a young mom then, and after I finished all the photos and interviews, I went to spend some days with my dad. He was an OB/GYN who dedicated his life to women’s well-being and was a great sounding board on how I wanted to write the book. Unfortunately, he passed away then. I returned to put my heart and soul into writing, which was healing for me but also made for what people have called a remarkably emotional tale.
